We absolutely LOVE science here in our house! We love anything having to deal with the study of the history of science, scientific shows (Like Eureka), you name it, we really enjoy it!
One of the things that really irritated us, though, with much of the teaching curriculum that we'd begun using was that it was centered around the theory of evolution. The more we get closer to God, the more irritating secular evolutionary theory has become.
The interesting thing that has occurred through the getting closer to God is that He has revealed His wisdom to us a little at a time because of our choice to get closer to Him. Let me just say, He's awesome!
Draw nearer to God and He will draw nearer to you.
Can I just say that Apologia has been the most interesting science intensive curriculum we have ever encountered AND it is creation based!
The elementary science is so very thorough and complete that if you have a student who doesn't find science fascinating, any of the science selections for the elementary level would fit very well. Our younger two children have enjoyed using the notebooking journals that come with the curriculum. It helps to make more hands on activities for them to learn from. Now Apologia is coming out with a younger children's journal. Since our children are a little older, we are just using the regular notebooking journal. Next year, 2013-2014 all 3 of our children will be using the high school Apologia books. No, it isn't mind boggling to us to have 3 different science levels going on at the same time. We're bracing for it and embracing it. In the mean time, our youngest will finish up Zoology 2 & 3 with a culminating trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. :)
The high school science, though more detailed than the elementary, is equivalent to a college course when taking for example Biology 1 and Biology 2. For our oldest, he will be taking the CLEP exam after finishing Biology 2 for college credit, but that is a different topic best broached another day. :)
