1 Corinthians 14:40 "Let all things be done decently and in order."
For the past month, we have been "unschooling." When we do this, it is usually canning time, break time anyway, time to reflect, time to rest our minds from book work, time to focus like a laser on things that are a needful part of everyday life.
I still count it as school because when the boys change the tires on a vehicle, clean up and organize the garage, chop and haul firewood, harvest potatoes, polyurethane walking sticks to sell, and have discussions about wanting to buy a lathe so they can make furniture out of real wood to sell to people, it is learning and growing as a person. I still count it as school, but it is undocumentable for the most part. I can take pictures, but they're getting irritated with me following them around trying to take pictures of all they do. So that stuff doesn't get documented.

I firmly believe in giving what I like to call "brain breaks" to my kids. When they've pushed hard through 4 modules in 2 months of school, that's brainy types of stuff! That's a good time to ease off and reflect, thinking about everything that has been learned. They've discussed all kinds of interesting topics related to their science studies at the table during meals, some not so appetizing, but you'll have that.
When you shift gears, still learning and doing responsible things, there is time for the mind to take in everything it has been learning. There is time for the body to work and set up things for winter. There is a time for all things to be done.
This past month was our time to unschool.
Today we begin again with our book work. I'm easing them in to it for this week. Right now they "should" be up and getting things done, but I'm letting them rest for a bit. It's been a busy week.
