I am so very thankful for our home. In this kitchen, we've served countless meals, canned soups and produce, laughed, cried, hugged and even a wrestling match went on in here! LOL That was brief though. We've lived in our home for 6 and a half years. We've gradually replaced appliances in an "as needed" basis or we've "gone without" until we could save enough to buy a new one.
Yesterday morning, we were still in limbo as to what we needed to do with the stove. We definately needed a new stove, though. That much we knew. The decision making process is always one wrought with lots of research! We looked online to compare the prices of replacing this current stove with a gas flat stove. We didn't like the price, so we decided it would be more economical to move the peninsula, create a new outlet where there was none, move the refrigerator to that point, then replace the carpeting and put the new stove where the refrigerator was. There is a gas pipe coming up out of the floor behind the refrigerator, so the decision to put the new stove there was a given.
Day 1
Living in the country, you're going to have mice. We've trapped our fair share, but when we pulled out the stove, we found something interesting. After getting all their nesting material cleaned up, we started pulling apart the peninsula.
After I packed or moved everything out of the cupboards, Mr. G was able to get everything taken apart with ease. The young men helped him through all of this, moving cabinets, boards and other items out of the way.
While we were working, UPS came with a box that HJ went through, put everything away and made sure we had everything on the list.
JL staying out of the way with a doggie bed on his lap and just out of sight is Biscuit...in the doggie bed, of course! :)
DA, 16, being such an awesome help to his Daddy...watching and being available when Daddy needs him.
Taking the wall apart.
Mr. G hands the panelling off to DA and JL to take out to the mud room, out of the way.
Pulling the carpeting up to see what it looks like underneath.
Trying to possibly reuse the old cupboards for the new island.
Drilling to make way for the new electrical outlet.
Day 2
Day two started with a leisurely pace. We've given ourselves 3 days to finish this project so we purposely don't stress ourselves out (very important). Stress-less days are wonderful...even if you have projects to take care of.
Mr G. took a nice ride in the sun on his motorcycle before bringing the linoleum in to the house. We're so very thankful for this nice sunny weather. What a wonderful balm for these northern souls! We've been able to get some outside work done as well in the past week that just makes breathing the fresh air and feeling the glorious sunshine so very welcoming.
As I sit here typing this entry, it is 11:30AM. The windows are open with the lovely breeze flowing over me with a slight chill, but I don't mind.
Now, on to pictures!
Measuring for new flooring.
Showing the boys how to change out the water line for the refrigerator ice dispenser.
Showing the boys how to disconnect the water line from the refrigerator.
Moving the refrigerator.
Almost there!
Reconnecting everything at the new spot--where the peninsula use to be.
JL putting new plate on the outlet.
DA getting ready to scrub the carpeting where the new stove would be going. (I know it seems counter productive to scrub the carpet when it will be ripped out soon. My husband decided to get new cabinets and counters so right before those come in, we'll change out the flooring.)
The new stove with an idea of where the island will go, with new cupboards and counter tops. :)
For now, this is pretty much where we've left it. When Mr. G has another day off, we'll continue by ordering counter tops and cupboards. Once we find out when they'll be in, we'll take everything out of the kitchen, lay down the flooring and put all the new stuff back in. :)
